If Mos Def Were President

Wassup 2008 (Politics as Product)

Remember the Wassup commercial from the Y2K Superbowl? A colleague alerted us to the remix eight years later. Instead of the brothers chillin’ having a Bud watching the game, they’re broke, unhappy and hoping for change (“true”). A little sentimental at the end, but the commentary is on point.

“CNN announced Wednesday that it will premiere a new, “unconventional” weekend show hosted by comedian D.L. Hughley. “D.L. Hughley Breaks the News,” as the show is currently titled, will feature Hughley’s humorous take on the week’s events.

It will also include interviews with newsmakers and reporters, according to the network. “D.L. Hughley Breaks the News” is scheduled to debut Saturday, October 25.” (cnn.com)

CNN, the Time Warner-owned corporate media giant known for its sensational(ist) journalism, appears to have a sense of humor as well. The key for D.L., however, is to get us to think as hard as he can make us laugh. Think Jon Stewart with a closer focus on black folk. We’ll see.

Below are clips from the recent debate on education held at Columbia University’s Teachers College earlier this week between Obama advisor Linda Darling-Hammond and McCain advisor Lisa Graham Keegan. In these brief clips they discuss teacher preparation, performance pay, and each candidate’s education priorities. A lot of policy-speak but worth the watch. You could be looking at the next Secretary of Education.

The Grassroots Netroots Alliance and Organic Consumers Association asked Head-Roc to write a song based on the GNA Candidates’ Survey addressing issues deemed of critical importance for decision making in the upcoming election. The result is a song titled “Change In America” or ‘C.I.A’ with the original production by DC Hip-Hop Icon Slimkat 78.

Also, in the formation of Head-Roc’s new and awesomely talented Funk, Rock, and Soul Band: GODISHEUS (gotta-see-us), there is another version of ‘Change In America’ – from which a music video PSA has been produced!
